In the final video of a new series of interviews exploring remote working, Caitlin Pyett, Director of Account Management & Consulting Lead at Crown World Mobility, speaks to Debbie Beynon, Regional Immigration Manager – APAC at Crown World Mobility about some of the compliance issues surrounding remote work, along with what is and what isn’t possible, before turning their gaze to the future of remote working.

Remote working and its impact on global mobility

During the pandemic mobility teams were tasked with addressing the need for remote working policies, as companies grappled with employees being stuck in locations away from their location of work. Mobility was thrust into the spotlight and mobility practitioners had to pivot quickly to address these issues.

Teams were tasked with not only designing the policies, but defining what remote working means: work from home, work from anywhere, virtual assignments – each posing a unique set of challenges.

As the pandemic wore on, and lockdowns took hold, working from home or from a remote location became increasingly normalised, to the point that this is now seen as the new normal

Since then, with some companies trying to encourage a return to the workplace, and others going entirely remote, where have these definitions and polices ended up?

Our new series explores how remote working has evolved since the scramble to incept policies in 2020:

Through a series of interviews with key industry figures, Caitlin Pyett asks:

  • Have companies have had to make amendments to their remote working policies due to senior management decisions regarding return to office, or other more practical issues?
  • What problems/challenges have been encountered by companies introducing remote working arrangements?
  • If companies introduced a “work from anywhere” policy, how has this gone?
  • Have companies introduced arrangements with Employers of Record – and more widely, what is an Employer of Record and how can they help?
  • What are some of the compliance issues surrounding remote work from an immigration perspective – what is and isn’t possible?
  • And what does the future hold for remote work?

How will global mobility look in 2023?
