Bulgaria: EU Blue Card Holders to Register with Public Health Insurance System

At the beginning of the year, the Bulgarian government modified rules for its EU Blue Card, one of them being the obligation for card holders to be covered under the national health system. EU Blue Card holders are reminded to register with the public health insurance. This applies to any applicant. For those who have obtained their EU Blue Card before January 29, 2023, their status of registration shall be „health insured“. However, those who have obtained their card after January 29, 2023, must register their status as „health insured“,  as well as file a health insurance declaration and provide payment for the period between the issuance of their Blue Card and the employment start date.
