United States: Extension of validity of work permits for some countries
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), has extended the validity of specific employment authorization documents (EADs) for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) beneficiaries from El Salvador, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, and Sudan. This extension remains in effect until March 9, 2025. Beneficiaries will receive a Form I-797, Notice of Action with details about the extension.
For TPS beneficiaries under these designations, it is crucial to re-register under the most recent extension for their designation by submitting Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status. DHS previously extended the re-registration periods for individuals to submit TPS applications:
- El Salvador: March 9, 2025
- Honduras: July 5, 2025
- Nepal: June 24, 2025
- Nicaragua: July 5, 2025
- Sudan: April 19, 2025
While the re-registration periods end on different dates, EADs are all extended through the same date: March 9, 2025.

Ireland: Changes in application process for permanent residence in counties Cork and Limerick
As of July 8, 2024, there will be changes to the application process (including renewals) for Irish Residence Permit (IRP) cards specifically for residents of counties Cork and Limerick.
Residents of these counties who are applying for an IRP for the first time must do so in person at the Burgh Quay Registration Office in Dublin. This means they will need to travel to Dublin for the application process.
Renewal applicants will benefit from a simpler process. In fact, those who wish to renew their IRP and are from counties Cork or Limerick, will be able to do so through an online application, via the Immigration Service Delivery online portal.

Sweden: Swedish median salary increased
Statistics Sweden published the new median salary, which was increased from SEK 34 200 to SEK 35 600. This means that foreign workers (first time or extension), must have a wage which amounts to at least SEK 28 480 or 80% of today’s median salary. The median wage is published annually by Statistics Sweden.
The new requirement applies to residence permits granted based on work for people coming to Sweden from a country outside the EU/EEA.
Professional coaches and athletes, au pairs, interns in the framework of international exchanges, or trainees with traineeships related to higher education and researchers, are exempt from this new requirement. Persons who are in possession or apply for an EU Blue Card, ICT permit and seasonal workers will also not be affected.
