Canada: Work Permit option for Quebec-selected applicantsToronto, Canada

The Canadian government implemented a new work permit option (International Mobility Program Plus) for Quebec-selected permanent residence candidates who are based outside Quebec and waiting for the application’s approval. With this new program, selected applicants will be able to move and work in the province.

To be eligible for this program, foreign nationals must:

  • Be based outside Quebec
  • Have a Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ)
  • Have an invitation letter from the Ministry of Immigration, Francization and Integration (MIFI)

Higher income for permanent residence applicants

From June 9, 2022, the amount of funds from foreign nationals applying for Permanent Residence will increase and foreigners applying must have the required amount of funds available at the time of application and when the Permanent Residence is issued. Those who are applying under the Canadian Experience Class, or those who are authorized to work or who already have a job do not need the proof of funds.

Chile: Visa categories restructured

The government of Chile published implemented final regulation, which restructures visa categories. Foreign nationals willing to work and reside, must obtain a temporary Residence Visa. This new temporary visa category has 16 subcategories, including for workers: self-employed or employed by a company, executives or directors traveling to perform business activities etc.

United States: I-94 Guidance for L-2 spouses

The U.S. Customs and Border protection (CBP) has added an ‘’S’’ to the status of L-2 individuals who entered the country before January 31, 2022, which allows them for employment under the L-2 status without the need for a separate Employment Authorization Document (EAD) but they must show a proof of spousal relation upon entry or wait until their status adjustment.

China: Entry requirements2019 AmCham Shanghai HR Conference

The Chinese government has revised the entry requirements for passengers planning to travel to China.

  • Fully vaccinated: received all the required doses within the recommended gap between doses, and the last dose being >14 days.
  • Transit passengers: passengers are permitted to transit if their country of origin doesn’t have a direct flight to China.
  • Standard HDC requirements: copy of passport, valid Chinese visa issued after March 28, 2020, or Chinese Permanent Residence ID, Covid test report, Vaccination Certificate (if vaccinated), Flight itinerary, Visa/Residence permits (non-citizens).
