Canada: Immigration Investor Program to be reopened in 2024Toronto, Canada

The government of Quebec has announced changes to Quebec’s economic immigration programs, which will affect Quebec Immigration Investor Program (QIIP) as well. Some of new requirements for applicants before applying are:

  • To demonstrate strong knowledge of spoken French language
  • To have a diploma corresponding to a secondary school diploma obtained
  • To live in Quebec for a period of at least six months within the two-year period following their work permit issuance
  • To make risk free investment (five-year term) of CAD one million with IQ Immigrants Investisseurs Inc. and to make a non-refundable financial contribution of $200,000 to this company, through a financial intermediary, within 120 days of the acceptance decision

The QIIP has been suspended since 2019 but the aim is to reopen in January 2024. The criteria for applicant to have a net worth of at least CAD two million and at least two years of management experience in the five years preceding the application remain unchanged.

Sweden: The Swedish Embassy in Pakistan closed

The Swedish Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan, is closed for external visitors until further notice. As a result, Pakistani nationals and people residing in Pakistan are being referred to the Embassy of Sweden in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to book an appointment for an interview, biometrics or passport check in applications for a residence permit due to family ties, studies or work. This also applies to anyone seeking a visitor’s permit to visit Sweden for more than 90 days.

It is not possible to apply for a Schengen visa to visit Sweden at the Embassy of Sweden in Addis Ababa.
