As a pioneer in circularity, we’ve long understood our responsibility to reduce the environmental impact of our operations and services.
The launch of our circular economy framework, aligned with BS ISO 59000 standards, marks a step forward in our journey at Crown UKI, formalising our commitment to embed circularity consistently across all brands.
A core element of our three-pillar responsible business strategy, circularity is a central part of our business, shaping how we think about materials, waste, and the lifecycle of the assets we manage for our clients. While circularity is already embedded in many of our services – from furniture refurbishment and resale to crate reuse and digitisation of records – we recognise that transitioning towards a fully circular business model requires a clear and coordinated approach.
In response, we have developed our circular economy framework – a structured approach designed to guide how we will reduce waste, improve resource efficiency and deliver circular solutions across Crown UKI. The framework is aligned with BS ISO 59000 standards to support our transition and the adoption of international standards for circularity performance.
Launched in early 2026, the framework sets out to build on our existing activities, bringing them together under a shared set of commitments: minimising resource use, extending product life, adopting circular procurement, maximising recycling, and leading our sector. It’s designed not only to strengthen our own operations, but also to support our clients in achieving lower carbon outcomes, reducing waste, and unlocking additional value from their assets.
We are initially focusing our efforts on two areas where we can have the most immediate and direct impact: waste and packaging. By reviewing our internal processes and working closely with our partners, we are identifying opportunities to reduce material use, improve recovery rates, and embed circular thinking into day-to-day operations.
Central to this is the active involvement of our people. Through our Carbon Reduction Team – made up of passionate representatives from across each of our brands – we are already making progress on reviewing and improving our internal waste management practices, helping to translate the framework into practical action.
We recognise that the transition to a circular economy is not something we can achieve alone. It requires collaboration both internally and across our industry, alongside a willingness to share knowledge, lead in testing new approaches, and continually improve. For that reason, our framework is designed to evolve over time as we learn, adapt, and work alongside others to drive progress, not perfection.
By taking a more structured and consistent approach to circularity, we aim to build on the strong foundations already in place at Crown UKI and play our part in moving our industry towards a more sustainable future.
Georgie Byrd, our UKI Sustainability Advisor, adds:
“Leading the development of this framework has been an exciting opportunity to accelerate the progress already happening across Crown. The power of the circular economy is that it brings all elements of sustainability together, requiring a more holistic view of our operations and the wider impact of the decisions we make. Working collaboratively to build on this momentum is vital to embedding circularity more consistently and maximising our positive impact.”
