Top tips for settling into a new location

In June’s edition of The Crown Focus, we spoke to three “Crowners” with first-hand experience of relocating to the other side of the world. Each shared their experiences of, and top tips for, planning and preparing for an overseas move. But how are they settling-in?

Whether you’re moving for the first time, or as an experienced expat, settling-in doesn’t happen overnight. Three months on, we catch up with Shân Norman, Crown World Mobility’s Vice President of Client Services, to see how her family have settled into life in Connecticut on their third international assignment. We get some great tips from Shân’s daughter on keeping in touch with friends and family back home, as well as building new friendships. We also catch up with the globe-trotting couple, Patrick Kenning, a Global Account Executive at Crown, and his wife Mathilde. Both reveal what they are enjoying most about living in London, and what they miss the most about Melbourne, Australia.

And finally, we get a different view from Dean Hefford, Crown Relocations U.K. and Ireland’s Regional General Manager, on what it’s like to settle into a new location twice. Dean relocated ahead of his wife on what’s often referred to as a split-family assignment, so we find out what it’s like to settle in once with the company, and a second time when Sarah joins later this year.
