Pending family reunification applications of non-EU nationals, filed after July 8, will take approximately nine months to be processed. Processing previously took six months. An influx in these types of applications has caused the processing delays.

Immigration authorities may also extend the processing time twice, for three months at a time. The nine-month processing time applies to in-country applications, and long-term family reunification visa applications, filed separately from the principal applicant’s submission for Belgian diplomatic missions abroad. As a result, additional travel restrictions may be imposed during this processing time.
